Find bugs by room
Where you found it says a lot about what it is. Pick a room, or one of the two groups that cut across the whole house.
KitchenAnts, cockroaches, pantry moths and fruit flies are common kitchen finds.
BathroomBathrooms draw bugs that need moisture: silverfish, drain flies, centipedes, sowbugs and the occasional spider stuck in the tub.
BedroomBites in bed are the main worry in bedrooms, but most of what people find there is a minor problem: sac spiders, carpet beetles, clothes moths and the odd stink bug from the window.
Living roomLiving rooms get the bugs that come in through windows and doors: lady beetles, stink bugs, boxelder bugs, jumping spiders and flies.
BasementBasements collect the bugs that like cool, damp, dark places: cellar spiders, camel crickets, centipedes, silverfish, sowbugs and millipedes.
GarageGarages and attics are half outdoors, so they get the widest mix: widow spiders, wasps, crickets, earwigs and the fall invaders looking for a winter spot.
Fall invadersFrom about late August into November, insects that spend summer outdoors move into houses to wait out the cold.
Biters and stingersThese are the house bugs that bite, sting or feed on blood.
